To be a dropout, you know, it’s like… you’re hated. You’re hated a lot. People literally, 100%, want to kill you.
An inmate at California’s Santa Rita Jail describes the fate of “drop outs,” or gang members who no longer want to affiliate with their gang. One of the most common actions taken against this group, besides being put on a “hit list” for murder, is face slashing. The purpose of slashing the face is to leave an immediately visible and permanent mark on an individual so everyone who sees them knows they fell out of favor with their gang. [x]
